Our Story

We are a small group of like minded people who meet weekly (every Thursday) to sew, chat and socialise.

Our passion has always been hand embroidery.

We are kind, warm and welcoming with a wealth of experience.

Please see our Upcoming Events page to find out what workshops and sewing sessions we are running.

A large number of the original attendees at Soup Dragons were students of Hazel Everett, a fantastic and inspirational RSN tutor; our classes were based mostly on Goldwork.

Sadly in 2018 Hazel passed away unexpectedly.

I began Soup Dragons as a place for the talent she had cultivated and so we could continue to meet up and stitch. As a group we decided we wanted to remember Hazel by stitching a small piece of work that reminded us of her. This resulted in the wall-hanging shown on this page and it now proudly hangs in the Front Hall of the Victoria Hall in Ash.

Meet the Team

Hazel - Teacher

Sharon - Founder

Soup-Dragons was created as a tribute to Hazel Everett after her sudden passing in 2018. The aim was to keep the friendships and support rom one another going as we felt she would have wanted.

The common interest was goldwork embroidery, the group has now evolved to encompass much more and we now offer workshops in many techniques, most of which involve a needle in some way.

The aim of Soup-Dragons is for people to feel that they can participate no matter their skill or skill level. Whilst run as a business there is a focus on making the craft of needlework as affordable as possible and not on profit.

My passion for crafting, like many others, began as a child. I have memories of sitting in the library at primary school knitting baby clothes. As a teenager I became an avid cross stitcher, taking my work wherever I went to sneak a few stitches in when I could. Next came weddings and wedding samplers and a full time job in Insurance. At this point I started to dabble with papercrafting.

I am often inspired by those around me, in particular Jet my black Cockerpoo, and my 4 cats.

My son Bobbie also is a great help with Soup-Dragons and a valuable team member. He helps with some of the more technical aspects ie. Card payments and he says he is “buff” so we let him do the heavy lifting. He is also learning to make a prom dress!
